New Release: Majid Jordan – ‘afterhours’ (EP)

ImageI haven’t been as committed as I would like with my music coverage, but there is one project that may have flown under your radar that I simply have to draw attention to. Majid Jordan, the R&B crooning duo comprising of vocalist Majid Al Maskati and producer Jordan Ullman from Toronto, who’ve recently garnered attention from their contribution to Drake‘s most recent single “Hold On We’re Going Home”, have released their own EP entitled afterhours. They knew the people wanted more and the duo answered our prayers with an eight-track masterpiece. You can find the download link below. Let me just say that OVO Sound is on the way to becoming a STACKED label. I’m a huge Drake fan and from his most recent collaborations, there is no doubt in my mind that this man knows what he’s doing. Too many rappers and miscellaneous hip-hop musicians fall into the trap of settling in to a particular sound rather than venturing out and attempting to find and emulate other creative sounds, making them into their own in the process. That’s how music works, and that’s how art works. You take a classic image like the Mona Lisa and you modernize it. By tapping on acts like The Weeknd, Sampha, James Fauntleroy, and even the mystery man Jai Paul, it proves to me that Drake and his team understand this concept. I see the Motown methodology at work. If you’re interested in any of the aforementioned names or artists like Chromeo, Onra, and Toro Y Moi; then trust me when I say you will love this EP.
