The seemingly always indecisive D-12 announced today that he will make his decision on which team he will play for next season on July 10th. It is obvious that Howard is determined to get the speculation over with as soon as possible, contrary to last season where he waited until August to be dealt to the Lakers. Reports from earlier this week stated that Howard would most likely not be rejoining the Lakers next season citing that D-12 didn’t like playing Mike D’Antoni‘s system. Top contenders for Howard’s services include the Dallas Mavericks and Houston Rockets. ESPN reported today that a representative from the Rockets will be meeting with Howard in coming days. The Rockets also plan to send general manager Daryl Morey, coach Kevin McHale, owner Les Alexander, Hakeem Olajuwon and current Rockets James Harden and Chandler Parsons to recruit Howard.
Teams are officially allowed to start meeting with free agents at 12:01 a.m. on Monday. The Lakers can offer a max deal of $118 million for five seasons while other teams will be able to offer a maximum of $88 million over four years.
