Classic Music: Jay-Z ft. DMX – “Money, Cash, Hoes Pt. 2”

The often overlooked single off Jay-Z‘s third solo album Vol 2…Hard Knock Life is by far one of my favorite singles in his catalog. “Money, Cash, Hoes” was the third single off an album made popular by the monstrous singles “Can I Get A…”, “Hard Knock Life”, and “Nigga What, Nigga Who (Originator 99)”. The most attractive part of the composition is Swizz Beatz‘ relentless use of descending synthesizers and speaker-knocking bass. Hova’s flow locks into the beat infectiously as he drops wisdom about the street tales of his young life. Jay states that his life would make great for a best-selling book while giving his best, boastful nonchalant bars. DMX adds his raspy “WHAT??” ad-libs to the repetitive but tough chorus. He barks and growls his verse to add more grime to this flossy, late-’90’s beauty. Listen to the song above!
