After years of dodging bad press and unfortunate situations, Ricky Rozay has finally caught flack for his lyrics on Rocko‘s “U.O.E.N.O.”. As announced by TMZ this afternoon, Ross has been dropped by sporting wear/equipment company Reebok as an endorser of their products. Reebok said in a statement:
“Reebok holds our partners to a high standard, and we expect them to live up to the values of our brand. Unfortunately, Rick Ross has failed to do so. While we do not believe that Rick Ross condones sexual assault, we are very disappointed he has yet to display an understanding of the seriousness of this issue or an appropriate level of remorse. At this time, it is in everyone’s best interest for Reebok to end its partnership with Mr. Ross”
If you haven’t heard Ross’ verse on the song, Ross states, “Put molly all in her champagne/she ain’t even know it/I took her home and I enjoyed that/she ain’t even know it”. Many say the lyrics condone rape and date rape. Ross has made plenty half-ass apologies but is still receiving criticism because of the wide platform he music is marketed on. Rocko told Hot97, Tuesday that the newer version of “U.O.E.N.O” will feature a verse from Wiz Khalifa instead of Ross.
I’m mad people act like Ross doesn’t rap about things that are far worse than rape like murder, gang-banging, and drugs. He’s only been rapping about killing people, selling guns and drugs, and extortion for…I don’t know, about more than half a decade. Eminem talked about raping his mother and ex-wife multiple times in the past and he was never really prosecuted in the same way Ross currently is. I hate to say this but maybe race factors into all this media scrutiny. On the positive side, I’m happy for Ross because he won’t have to wear those hideous shoes anymore. What are your thoughts?
