This is a shocker but is very understandable, as Kid Cudi announced his departure from G.O.O.D Music today after four years and three solo albums (one as WZRD) with the label. In radio interview with Los Angeles’ Power 106, Cudi claimed he sat down with label head Kanye West to discuss his feelings and thoughts, to which Kanye respected and agreed. Cudi states that he wants to focus on his label Wicked Awesome Records and King Chip‘s debut album. Cudi explained:
Man, everything is cool. Everything is peace with everyone on the label, but I’m announcing that I’m no longer on G.O.O.D. Music. And this is something that no one knows really. I’m no longer on G.O.O.D. Music.
Me and Kanye were actually talking on the phone the other day, and there’s been things I wanted to talk to him about. About me wanting to start my own direction, and he got because he’s trying to start his own new path, and trying new things as an artist. And he was just like ‘Man, I feel you. It’s cool.’ This is just from abusiness standpoint. There’s no beef with anyone on the label. It’s all love.
This was bound to happen as Cudi grows as an artist and forges his own path. He’s 29 and needs own direction in his career without Kanye’s overseeing. Congrats to Cudi. Listen to a part of the interview below.
